Apple iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, with their 120Hz displays and revamped cameras, are a significant step forward in mobile technology.
The newest iPhone Pro models are both more powerful and more impressive than their standard counterparts. The most important new feature is a ProMotion display on an iPhone.
The new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
Apple calls it “ProMotion” for a display with a high refresh rate. It has a 10Hz minimum and a 120Hz maximum on the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. iOS has been updated to maximize the screen space available on the new iPhone 6+ display.
The two new 6.1” and 6.7” iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max options have the same display size options. The TrueDepth camera’s host notch has been shrunk by 20%, while the new panels are 25% brighter outside.
To discuss the camera, we should begin with the lens. Apple held the 12MP resolution, but the lenses, sensors, and image processing all received an upgrade.
iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max Camera
The primary camera sensor has a substantial pixel size of 1.9 micrometers and a bright aperture of f/1.5. Compared to the 12 Pro Max, the Pro Max 2 has a 1.7µm pixel size and an f/1.6 lens. With its increased light sensitivity, the new model is capable of capturing up to 2.2 times more light in low-light environments.
Compared to the primary camera, the telephoto cam has a new 77mm f/2.8 lens, which offers 3x optical magnification. Its aperture is f/2.4 with a lens diameter of 65 mm/2.5x.
For our second camera, we have the ultrawide camera, which has a 6-element f/1.8 lens with autofocus. This benefits users by giving the camera’s sensor an extra up to 92 percent more light. Additionally, the autofocus functionality transforms the ultra-wide module into a macro camera. The telephoto lens even features Night mode on the Pro models.
On top of that, the new chip also has hardware support for Apple’s ProRes video codec, which is popular with professional video creators. You can edit ProRes videos on the phone with the Pro’s ability to record at 4K and 30 fps. Dolby Vision HDR, with up to 4K 60 fps capability, is supported.
When recording video, the iPhone 13 Pros make depth maps available to you, so you can change the depth of field after filming has finished. A new option is Photographic Styles, which edits an image, element by element (applying different corrections to the subject and background, for example). All of the vanilla 13 models will eventually support this.
Chipset / Processor
The Apple A15 Bionic chipset is something we need to discuss. It consists of a staggering number of 15 billion transistors (the A14 had 11.8 billion). Apple didn’t share additional details about the 5nm fabrication process. Apple’s A-series of mobile processors utilize a two+four CPU design, with two big cores, and the company claims that they are “50 percent faster than the industry’s leading competitor”. It’s difficult to know what the industry’s leading competitor is in Cupertino’s eyes.
It boasts a 5-core GPU, which bests the 4-core processors in normal mobile phones. The Neural Engine has been improved, allowing for 15.8 TOPS (compared to 11 TOPS on the A14), which we’ll just note is slightly below the Snapdragon 888+’s advertised 32 TOPS.
Battery and Charge
Thanks to a combination of a more efficient screen, a more efficient chipset, and a larger battery and optimizations, the battery life has been extended. The average iPhone 13 Pro will have a charge that lasts 1.5 hours, while the 13 Pro Max can stay alive for an extra 2.5 hours longer than the 12 Pro Max. Apple did not mention a faster charging system, so it is assumed that both Lightning and MagSafe will be capable of 15W and 20W wired charging.
The Graphite, Gold, Silver, and new Sierra Blue color editions of the two Pro phones will be available. Each color required a different coating method to make it strong. The metal body of the chassis is made of stainless steel, while the front and back are protected by Ceramic Shield and matte glass, respectively. Sapphire crystal covers the camera lenses.
Apple has also expanded 5G support to more bands. 200+ carriers across 60+ countries will support the iPhone 13 series by the end of the year. If it is not needed for important or time-sensitive communications, the Smart Data feature will automatically go to 4G in order to conserve battery life.
Let’s talk about storage first, then pricing. Even with the increase in storage options, the phone still begins at 128 GB, has a 256 GB and 512 GB option, and includes the 1 TB option.
iPhone pre-orders will begin this Friday, and customers can expect the first units to be ready on September 24th. The iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max are both $1,000 and $1,100, respectively. Here are the latest pricing details.
